12 South Holiday Lights 2026: Santa Night, the Holiday Party and Two Big Shows

By the Permanent Lighting Solutions teamPublished

A stucco house with two gables and dormers, its rooflines and walls washed in green light at dusk.

12 South follows 12th Avenue South below downtown Nashville, a strip of shops and restaurants with blocks of older houses on both sides. Its holiday season is small and neighborly: one evening with Santa in November and one party in December, both posted by the neighborhood's organizers on 12south.org. Those two dates come first below, followed by two of the biggest light shows in the city. Some details are still marked "coming soon," so give 12south.org another look before you set out.

When is the 12 South Polar Express party in 2026?

Date:
Saturday, November 14, 2026

The 12south.org homepage lists the Polar Express Party and Santa for Saturday, November 14, 2026. The evening pairs professional Santa photos, timed early enough for holiday cards, with an outdoor showing of The Polar Express hosted by the Jr Predators. No start time or location is posted yet, and the listing says details will follow. The organizers' printed 2026 calendar of events gives the same November 14 date.

Sunset that Saturday comes at about 4:40, so an outdoor movie starts in full dark. A porch line on a dusk timer is already lit by the time families head over.

When is the 12 South Holiday Party in 2026?

Date:
Monday, December 7, 2026
Time:
6:30 pm
Place:
Fryce Cream

The 12 South Holiday Party falls on Monday, December 7, 2026, at Fryce Cream. The reservations page sets it for 6:30 pm with Chef Barlow, while the homepage still says the time and other details are coming soon. Space is limited, so the organizers take a per-person reservation fee in advance.

Where can you see Christmas lights on foot in 12 South?

12 South is a neighborhood people cover on foot, and December is when the side streets off the avenue look their best. Park once, then loop the residential blocks on foot, where front porches sit close to the sidewalk and a lit roof edge is seen from a few steps away. Cross 12th Avenue at the marked crosswalks, keep headlights low if you drive the side streets, and stop only where parking is legal.

  • Glow Wild at the Nashville Zoo: a short drive southeast, the zoo stays open each evening for its light show. The season begins November 13, 2026 and closes January 3, 2027, and each night runs 5 to 9 pm. Glowing animal displays fill the paths, and the Holiday Square holds an 85-foot tree that runs its own synchronized show. Times and tickets: the zoo's Glow Wild page.
    Date:
    November 13, 2026 to January 3, 2027
    Time:
    5 to 9 pm nightly
    Place:
    Nashville Zoo
  • A Country Christmas at Gaylord Opryland: from November 6, 2026 to January 2, 2027, the resort strings more than 5 million Christmas lights through its grounds and carves its ice exhibit around the film Home Alone from 2 million pounds of ice. Plan a visit on the Opryland Christmas site.
    Date:
    November 6, 2026 to January 2, 2027
    Place:
    Gaylord Opryland

The Nashville-area holiday lights calendar rounds up parades, tree lightings and shows from all over the region, each one linked to its organizer.

Bungalow porches, Tudor gables and new infill

The older houses near the avenue lean toward bungalows, Victorians and Tudor Revivals, with newer infill tucked between them. On a bungalow, two lines usually carry the look: the porch roof in front and the main eave above it. A Tudor's steep front gable points upward, so a track along both of its sloped edges draws a peak that reads from across the street. A new house with a flat, plain front often needs only one straight run.

A porch line for Santa night

Bungalows and Tudor Revivals on the side streets get a fuller look on the 12 South permanent lighting page, and you can send a quote request to start on a roofline that switches on before Santa night.
