Permanent Lighting in Sylvan Park, TN

Each light in a Sylvan Park system from Permanent Lighting Solutions puts out 72 lumens, among the brightest permanent lights made, and the same roofline can run as a dim wash on an ordinary night.

Sylvan Park is a largely residential neighborhood of Nashville, west of downtown, with Charlotte Avenue on its north side. Licensed, insured and certified installers put a color-matched aluminum channel under the roof edge of its houses, and the lights seat inside it.

New Town, the Dinky and the cherry trees

The Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association says the neighborhood was founded in 1887 by the Nashville Land Improvement Company, under the original name of New Town. The present name comes from the Latin word for forest, a good fit for tree-lined streets. In the middle of the 1900s Sylvan Park had a streetcar line of its own, known as the Sylvan Park Dinky, and the association points to the neighborhood's cherry trees as famous.

Its FAQ draws the boundaries as Charlotte Avenue on the north, Richland Creek on the west, and railroad tracks on the south and east. The fuller story is in the book Nashville's Sylvan Park, by Yvonne Eaves and Doug Eckert, and the association puts the population at about 4,000.

Markers on the street corners

The association counts over a dozen historical markers in the neighborhood. Three of them mark McConnell Field, on 46th Avenue North at Murphy Road, at 4601 Murphy Road and at 4617 Sloan Road. Others stand for Sylvan Park School on Utah Avenue, Cohn School on Park Avenue, Richland Hall on Charlotte Avenue, the Cohen Building and St. Ann Catholic Church on Charlotte Pike, and the Richland Creek Greenway entrance on White Bridge Road. A marker for Charlotte Road sits on a stone in Richland Park.

Richland Park, McCabe Park and the creek

Metro Parks lists the Richland Park picnic shelter at 4601 Charlotte Pike, and says the park also has the Richland Park Library, a playground and tennis courts. The association's FAQ adds a Saturday morning farmers market in the park, and it describes the Richland Creek Greenway as a paved, looped path of 3.8 miles that links the neighborhood to McCabe Park, the shopping along White Bridge Pike and Harding Road, and Nashville State Community College.

Metro calls McCabe Park Community Center a facility in the heart of the West Nashville-Sylvan Park neighborhood, and the first community center in the city with LEED certification. McCabe Golf Course is a 27-hole municipal course whose original eighteen holes date to 1942, with a driving range of 27 hitting stations that opened in March 2012.

The canopy and the Fourth of July parade

The association runs a multi-year plan to keep the canopy healthy, working with Metro horticulturists, the Nashville Tree Foundation and neighbors, and it says 142 new trees went into public rights-of-way over four years. The association also holds a Fourth of July parade around Richland Park, with crafts and treats in the pavilion.

Permanent Christmas lights in Sylvan Park

Install day starts before our installers arrive. The roofline is measured, and the channel is cut and colored to the house so it arrives ready to fit. On the day it goes up under the roof edge, the runs are joined, and the controller is mounted and wired indoors. Zones are set up before the ladders leave, and the system is left running with the app ready. The system page shows each part, and the care page says what is covered.

With the app, the front porch can run one color while a gable runs another, and a schedule brings the lights on at sunset with nobody touching a phone. Red and green make December, and warm white serves the rest of the year. Try the looks on the presets page.
