What five Nashville-area town codes say about storefront and commercial exterior lighting

Read the code yourself: every passage below is copied word for word from the town's own published code except where a clause is marked as paraphrased.

This page is reference only. It quotes sections of the zoning and sign codes of five towns, Nashville (Metro), Franklin, Brentwood, Hendersonville and Mt. Juliet, on five topics: string and rope lighting, flashing or animated lighting, glare and light spill, sign lighting, and seasonal lighting.

Sources were read between October 2 and October 8, 2026. Codes get amended, so check the link for the current text.

How to read this page

  • Text in quotation marks is copied exactly from the source, including its spelling.

  • The town's source link sits in that town's one closing line, not on every bullet.

  • This page does not say what any passage means for a particular property. It stops at the quote.
